Dem leader to party members: "How we're taking back the Narrative"

NOT FOR MEDIA DISTRIBUTION

From: Senator J. Raskin
To:  Party members
Subject: How we're winning the "Undocumented American" Narrative

Recently a couple of stories in right-wing, pro-Trump media claim our Party is on the wrong side of the "undocumented Americans" issue by blocking Trump's efforts to deport undocumented Americans.
Don't worry:  Our strategy is working exactly as planned.

Here's a brief summary:

1. Our Media allies know to describe UA's arrested by ICE as being "kidnapped, without a warrant."  Our focus groups show the word "kidnapped" and the phrase "without a warrant" triggers most voters.

2. Our Media friends are careful to avoid mentioning that warrants aren't needed for arrests of known UA's in public.  But our focus groups show most Americans believe a warrant is needed, and our focus voters are becoming more outraged every day.  So when you're planning demos against ICE operations, ensure that all participants know to point out that the arrest is "without a warrant."

3. All stories from our Media friends claim that none of our "undocumented American" friends being "kidnapped by Trump's cruel ICE agents" have committed a crime.
Frankly some of our strategists didn't think the public would believe this, but after AOC, Ayana Presley and others repeatedly said on the news that it's NOT against the law to enter the U.S. illegally, our focus groups show 65% of voters now believe it.

4. Our Media friends will continue to highlight the "terrible cruelty of separating loving families," and will avoid mentioning that all members of UA families are free to leave together.  Our focus groups have found that the phrase "cruelly separating families" is one of the top triggers for anger and anxiety.

5. Our focus groups say voters are somewhat concerned about crime, so we developed a counter: all stories will continue to note that "American citizens commit crime at a higher rate than undocumented Americans."  No one has been able to disprove this because no one knows how many UA's there are in the U.S.
We've met with our Media friends to ensure they know how much we need voters to get this message.

6. All stories should continue to note that "El Salvador's notorious CECOT prison uses torture."  Don't worry about citing a source, because our focus groups show that because it's a jail in Central America, voters simply assume it's true.

7. When your staff recruits crowds to "protest the kidnapping of hard-working family men by ICE agents," find an attractive teenage girl to volunteer to block ICE agents.  Nothing enrages the public more than a hulking cop in a mask manhandling a slender teenage girl.

8. We're also getting good responses from focus groups when stories note that "ICE agents are wearing masks to hide their identity."  When Rep. Eric Swalwell appeared on a Sunday talk show and asked "If the arrests were legal, why would the agents need to hide their identity?"
The response from focus groups was outstanding.  Fortunately the producers cut off the question "Isn't that why protesters are masked?"  But if any of you are asked, the reply is "The protesters are masked because they're concerned about the new strain of covid--which evolved naturally from a bat virus."

There's no doubt that we're winning the battles for 2026 and 2028 here, comrades.
