Fani Willis speaks in black church: 'I'm just like MLK Jr. Dey jus' pickin' on me cuz raacism!

Yesterday--fortuitously the day before "MLK day"--Fulton County DA (and Trump prosecutor) Fani Willis went to a black church, where she'd been promised she could give a nice long pitch for sympathy.

Like a good religious person she confessed that she's sinned and needs the grace of Jesus to be forgiven.  And since Jesus will, obviously all good people will do likewise, eh?

Then she said, "You know who else was smeared by an FBI sex scandal?  Martin Luther King Jr.  And when you think about it, I'm just like him."

She conceded that she wasn't "perfect" and must be allowed to "stumble."  See, no intentional lawbreaking, merely..."a stumble."

"You cannot expect black women to be perfect and save the world," she said. "We need to be allowed to stumble. We need grace."

The sure sounds like a tacit admission that she knows she did something wrong and is defending her actions by claiming it's merely "a stumble" and asking for forgiveness.

That seems very clear, and fair enough as far as that goes.

See, to hear her tell it, Fani Willis is MLK in a skirt, and just like MLK she's sinned.  And because she and King are both black, as are the members of the church, she should be forgiven for any sin she may have committed.

Interestingly, for one who's supposedly asking for forgiveness, she repeatedly mis-stated the facts, claiming her critics were criticizing her for hiring one black attorney--Wade--that she said the critics claimed was unqualified.  But the complaint was that she hired her lover, who she had the county pay $700,000 to in legal fees, and then toured the country with him.

Honey dat ain't a qualification complaint, it's "conflict of interest."  But of course you knew that, cuz you a smaht DA, right?

Wait...if you knew dat, why you mis-state duh fax?

Does Willis think that with the same set of facts, except the lover was white, nobody would be criticizing her?

WILLIS: God, why don't they look at themselves and just be honest?  Why are they surprised that a diverse team I assembled, your child, can accomplish extraordinary things? God, wasn't it them who attacked this lawyer of impeccable credentials?

"Credentials" isn't the complaint.  This is pure deflection.

Willis knows that the good women of the black church would NOT be at all sympathetic to her having an affair with the married attorney Wade, so she knows her only choice is to re-define the problem as raaaacist attacks on her for doing what she implies the FBI set up MLK to do.  And then adding that the critics are attacking her lover's credentials (because he's black), rather than the fact that she hired Wade and had county taxpayers pay her lover $700,000, then reaped the benefits in traveling with him to several vacation spots.

Plays SO much better, eh Fani?

You might try calling Claudine Gay for suggestions.  Gay wrote a long excuse letter-- printed in the faaabulous NY Times--claiming she dindoo nuffin wrong.  Instead some pipo left off quotes and citations, an' she shouldn't be held to account, since she's an elite.

If you read the comments, the readership of the Times totally agreed.  So maybe Claudine will be able to help with your "dis all jus' raaacism" defense.
