New York City to install vending machines to dispense syringes and needles "to reduce overdoses"

NYC just ended a year with 2,062 opioid-class overdose deaths--the highest number of deaths since they started keeping track.  So, being vewwy smaht liberals, the city's rulers have devised "A Plan," to...how did they put it?  Oh yeah, "to help fight the opioid crisis."  Alternating with "to dispense *wellness supplies.*"

"To help fight the opioid crisis," and to dispense "wellness supplies," eh?

Yep.  And what marvelous, liberal Plan have they hit on to do this?  Why, they're gonna give connected Dem cronies $730,000 to install ten "public health vending machines" around the city.

So if you (non-Hahvahd grad, resident of a flyover state, thus very unsophisticated) were gonna dispense "public health" to "help fight the opioid crisis" and dispense "wellness supplies," what would you have the machines dispense?

Why, needles and syringes, and the costly antidote for overdose.

"Wait...excuse me.  Unlike you New York Democrats I'm not very sophisticated, but wouldn't selling syringes, with needles, and antidote, at a bargain-basement cost (more on that later) actually *encourage* people to shoot up narcotics?"

You're just too un-hip to understand what's going on here, sparky.  You're not a "health official," so you just don't understand.  See, city "health officials" are hip, so they know that being hooked on I-V drugs is just as valid a life decision as being a neurosurgeon.  So that's why they've asked all their cronies for proposals to install the "public health vending machines."

Even though it's hard to see how the machines will be vending, you know, health.

The liberals know black and Latino residents in neighborhoods with the highest rates of poverty reported the most overdose deaths in 2020.  So the liberal "fix" is to make it less expensive to shoot up.

Sure, makes perfect sense.

The request for bids said "Racial equity does not mean simply treating everyone equally, but rather allocating resources and services in such a way that explicitly addresses barriers imposed by structural racism (i.e. policies and institutional practices that perpetuate racial inequity) and White privilege."

The author of the glowing writeup of the "lower the cost of shooting up initiative" said the machines "will help opioid overdose prevention programs."  It's not exactly clear HOW the program will help prevent overdoses, but at least it will make the anti-overdose drug readily available, so junkies who OD can be revived.

The author says such programs "have become an emerging strategy to combat high-barrier access to health and wellness supplies."  Cuz, see, syringes are critical to health.  And wellness.

And lest you think NY liberal Dems are the only ones crazy enough to pitch this with a straight face, the author claims there are successful programs in Las Vegas and Cincinnati.  So there.

Coming soon: New York City will set up "supervised consumption sites for illegal drugs."

You think I'm kidding.  Well you're partly right: It's not "coming soon," they started it last November.  Yep, taxpayer-funded shooting galleries.  How hip is that, eh?

Dr. Dave Chokshi, commissioner of the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reassured citizens that these sites "were designed to operate long term."  Wow, that's reassuring, cuz once a government starts something like that, it's funded forever.  Can't ever stop funding 'em.

But surprisingly, such "opioid overdose prevention strategies" remain controversial among un-hip, judgmental conservatives and similar anti-personal-choice extremists.

In fact, in other US cities where these programs operate, a few residents and law enforcement officers have even warned that selling syringes and needles and anti-overdose drug could actually increase drug use and crime.

Which just shows you how crazy some people are, eh?
