WOW: NY Times declares presidential debates are now "irrelevant," pushes to eliminate 'em

Debates between the two partys' presidential nominees have been a regular event of American politics since John F. Kennedy debated Richard Nixon.  Which, for college-age Americans, happened 60 years ago.  Such debates have been touted as the most reliable way to see if a candidate can think on his feet, without a teleprompter feeding him (or her, in Hilliary's case) the answers.

But for months now, conservatives have speculated that because of Joe Biden's apparent mental problems the Democrat rulers don't want to let Biden take part in these time-honored debates..  But the Dems know that simply refusing to debate would cause lots of independent voters to see this--correctly--as an admission that he's not mentally sharp.  So the top Dem strategists are looking for some way to get some other entity to cancel the debates.  That way the Dems could claim that Joe was eager to debate the eeeeebil Trump, and would have soundly thrashed him!

For months I've predicted the Dems would get Biden out of the debates by having an in-house doctor claim, two weeks before the first debate, that Biden just tested positive for the Chinese virus, and it would be too great a health risk to other people to let him out in public to debate. 

This cover story would be followed by a six weeks of dramatic "news updates" on Joe's brave fight against the virus, complete with pics of the smiling candidate from his hospital-like bed at home.  It would be dramatic and filled with all the pathos the Mainstream Media could muster. It would be a public-relations gold mine.

But this morning Democrat strategists rolled out a much better plan:  An editorial in the NYTimes piously urged "Let's scrap the presidential debates."

So after 60 years of pushing these iconic debates as fabulously important, suddenly the Dems want to eliminate them?  Gosh, that's...odd, eh?  Why the sudden move to scrap a time-honored, universally-supported method by which voters could evaluate the two candidates without teleprompter answers?

Here's the opening 'graf by the Times:

Nervous managers of the scheduled 2020 presidential debates are shuffling the logistics to deal with the threat of the coronavirus. But here’s a better idea: Scrap them altogether. And not for health reasons.

The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership.

Gosh, that's...odd.  After all, just four short years ago the Dems were absolutely insistent that the debates would allow their nominee--Hilliary--to wrap up her coronation by showing voters how likeable and brilliant she was, eh?  But suddenly, four years later, Dem surrogates are wailing that the debates have NEVER made sense as a test for presidential leadership.  WTF?

Of course the Times author assures us that

"This [proposal], by the way, isn’t written out of any concern that Donald Trump will prevail over Joe Biden in the debates; Mr. Biden has done just fine in a long string of such contests. The point is that “winning” a debate, however assessed, should be irrelevant, as are the debates themselves.

Got that?  Not written out of ANY concern that Trump will win over Biden in these silly, utterly useless "debates."  No sir!  Absolutely NOT!  What could possibly lead you to think such a thing?

Moreover, what's all this concern about who wins a silly, utterly useless "debate, anyway?  Cuz according to the air-tight "logic" of the liberal Times, the point is that

"...winning a debate...should be irrelevant, as are the debates themselves"

Wow, didja see how neatly they declared that the question of who wins these debates is NOW irrelevant?  Even more brazenly, the Times now claims the debates themselves are "irrelevant."   Far cry from four years ago, eh?  What could possibly have caused the Times to reverse their position in just four years, eh?

Gosh, it's a mystery.

Interestingly, if one party should be leery about the Democrat-moderated debates it should be the GOP, because in 2016 the chair of the Dem National Committee, Donna Brazile, who was plugged in to the all-Democrat jerks moderating the debate, admitted giving the supposedly-secret, pre-written debate questions to Hilliary's campaign!

And no one in the Lying Mainstream Media batted an eyelash.

UPDATE:  I posted the above piece yesterday.  Then last night a conservative noted that the "debates are totally useless and should be scrapped" meme has sprung up simultaneously in all the Dem media:

This is amazingly brazen, since I suspect 99 percent of people reading that last phrase will interpret it as meaning "the political-right are the folks who want to cancel the debates," which is the absolute opposite of the truth.  The key is that word "tempest" at the end.  Beautifully ambiguous.

My guess is that the Dems made that part of the Narrative from the outset, and that if, as seems likely, the debates are indeed scrapped, in two more months every Democrat and independent will believe the Dem lie that Biden wanted to debate, was eager to trounce da Orange Man, but that the Republicans pushed to scrub the debates cuz the were concerned that Biden would win!

The Democrat-Mainstream-Media complex is like the Death Star of Star Wars. Incredible power.
