Ex-CEO of homeless agency in California charged with "misappropriating" $1.2 million
The homeless–industrial complex is a lucrative target for professional grifters. National Review reports that Gwendolyn Westbrook, former CEO of the United Council of Human Services--a San Francisco-based homelessness nonprofit--was charged Monday with nine felony counts for allegedly misappropriating more than $1.2 million in public funds.
In addition to the $1.2 million, court documents show that other large amounts of money are also missing from UCHS accounts.
This is likely just the tip of an iceberg: The Democrat-ruled state of California spent $24 billion from 2019 to 2024 on "the homeless," but officials don't know how the money was spent, according to a state audit released last year, which found that no systems were in place to track spending.
Of course there weren't! Cuz that would have made any theft easier to find, eh? Can't have THAT, comrade.
From the viewpoint of Gavin Newsom and his merry band of thieving Democrats in the state Assembly this is success--because it allows 'em to bleat that they need even more tax dollars to "continue to help the homeless," eh?
